What is a Locking PDU Socket Is the focus of this tutorial. We are looking at what is referred to as Locking PDU Sockets. Because of their reliability, they are usually used in high-end PDUs.
The Locking PDU Sockets incorporate a locking mechanism between the equipment plug and the PDU socket thereby securing the physical connection. Pushing the red button releases the plug from the socket. This ensures the plugs cannot be accidentally pulled out of the socket.
There is also the P-Lock system which is more widely used in the USA. P-Locks are designed with locking clips on the sides of the connector keeping them firmly plugged in.
The Locking PDU Socket is available mainly for the commonly used plugs and sockets in the IT industry – the IEC C13/C14 and C19/C20.
There are other options available in the market ranging from plug retention to locking mechanisms.
